This second floor farmhouse cottage is located on a private, historic family estate, and offers acres of open land with views of the Long Island Sound and the mouth of the Connecticut River. There is access to private beaches on the Long Island Sound where you will often be the only people you can see. There are plenty of things to do in the Old Lyme area, with unique shops and art galleries. Peaceful retreat: This secluded second floor cottage, located on a private lane, rests in a former barnyard with fantastic views of Long Island Sound, the mouth of the Conn. River, Saybrook lighthouses, marshes and coves teeming with birds (bird sanctuary). The space below (first floor) provides a laundry room, storage and carport. It is a short walk from Udder Heaven to a secluded beach on the Long Island Sound and another beach on a protected cove, open fields with walking, hiking and run paths are just the beginning of this quiet private retreat. This is a unique and special place to bird watch, especially osprey with many nest on the estate. If you enjoy photography, this is one of the best locations for unique photos and memories. A huge deck for entertaining, a covered carport and laundry facility are included. It's name is 'Udder Heaven' because it once housed the dairy, when the farm was active. Cottage details: The cottage is on the second floor, requiring climbing stairs. Dogs are welcome, $75 per week cleaning fee per dog is required. We ask smokers to use the deck just outside the living room. Cleaning services can be arranged. Pillows and blankets are supplied at no charge. Sheets and towels are not provided. Please bring your own linens (sheets) and towels, there are 2 twin beds and one queen bed, plus a convertible couch (double). The kitchen is fully equipped, and the cottage has ceiling fans and is air conditioned (quiet, ductless with compressor outside). Because there is no heat, the cottage is closed during winter. Utilities are part of the rent, and local phone service is provided. The following is also included with rental of Udder Heaven: Samsung flat screen 32' HDTV, DVD/VCR player, internet services. The normal rental period is from 4:00 PM on Saturday to 10:00 AM Saturday, so we can squeeze in a thorough cleaning. Old Lyme environs: Old Lyme is a central location for many activities. Nearby are rivers and coves convenient for kayaking and sailing. The Mystic Seaport is a short distance away, as are Gillette's Castle, the Essex Steam Train (and boat ride), Devil's Hopyard Park, the Florence Griswold Art Museum, the Godspeed Opera House for summer shows, Chamard Vineyard, golf and fine dining (The Griswold Inn in Essex) and the best pizza, ice cream, and grinder shops in New England. The other will dock a boat up to 48 feet and is located across the street at Spicers Marina. We have a boat launch right at our dock for your use as well. Kids can play on the boat docks and enjoy fishing, crabbing, netting, and a host of water activities while you observe from the second floor deck. We offer small boat rentals as well, and arrange Fishing Charters upon request. There is 1 King bedroom, 1 Queen Bedroom, and the 3rd bedroom offers a Queen bed, and 2 additional twin beds. The Guest House has 3 Bedrooms. One has a King (with a Private Bathroom off of it), and the others have a Queen each. These bedrooms in the guesthouse are a touch smaller than the bedrooms in the Main house. The beautiful Harbor Town known as “Downtown Mystic” is only a short bike ride or casual stroll away. A three (3) mile journey brings you to one of New England’s most sought after destinations. You may also rent one of our small boats at Palmers Cove Marina and travel by boat. Cruise up the river, go under the famous draw bridge and tie up to one of the many restaurants on the water. The famed Mystic Aquarium and Mystic Seaport are within minutes as well. We do have a GM that will check you in and answer any questions about the area. During your stay we have a Butler that is on call at all times. He is only moments away. If you need extra fire wood for the pit for example (which we provide) or extra propane for the gas grills, he will get it for you. For the nighttime fare, the two Connecticut Casinos (Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun) are within 20 minutes and there are many other activities even closer. Every Thursday night Esker Point Beach has its concert series. You can walk across the street to the Beach or simply listen to it from your deck. The home is perfect for mulitple families. There is privacy but yet easy access if wanted. Please do not underestimate how important it is to be within walking distance to an Awesome Beach. A beach house is not a true "Beach House" if you can't walk to the beach. This makes it so easy when you have a lot of people and guests. Everybody can come and go at their own pleasure. Waking back to the house for a private bathroom break, or a lunch break, or a forgotten IPhone is simple and only takes 5 minutes. Having to actually drive to a beach and load up cars, kids, food, etc you might as well be 45 minutes from the beach. It always gives you the ability to do something easy for everyone. Point Of Woods has a large white sand beach with a boardwalk adjacent to a nature preserve with additional beaches all just a short walk away. Our cottage was built on the high point of Point O’ Woods in the 1930’s and usually enjoys a pleasant sea breeze. We've created a comfortable, relaxing space, with updated kitchen and bath while maintaining a simple cottage feeling. The kitchen is well equipped and beach gear is available - chairs, umbrellas, floats, sunscreen, toys. There are two hammocks in our shady back yard, a picnic table, a large table and chairs, outdoor shower, and on the side porch is a gas grill with outdoor furniture for dining and lounging. Point O' Woods is an ideal place for families. Two tennis courts, a modern playground, basketball court, pavilion, boat launch, scenic overlooks, wooded trails, organized beach blanket bingo and movies on the beach organized by the beach association twice a week. The ice-cream truck parks at the beach all day or take a short walk, to "Scoops Ice Cream and Market." If you plan to visit colleges, we are only 20-minute drive to Amtrak station in Old Saybrook. Yale, Wesleyan, Trinity, Brown, Connecticut College, Providence College are all 30 minutes to an hour away.
